Spanner can help turn your car details into an advert.
Could suit you if…
- You regularly make longer journeys: diesel may fit that pattern better than a routine of mostly short trips. Compare actual running costs.
- You would prefer less gear changing in traffic: the recorded automatic transmission may suit. Try how this exact gearbox behaves on a test drive.
Think twice if…
- You need room for several children or extra passengers: the seat count is not recorded. Confirm this exact version's seats and child-seat fit; do not assume from the model name.
- Most journeys are short school runs or local trips: check whether this diesel has a particulate filter and what longer runs its handbook requires.
- You need servicing to fit a tight budget: Spanner estimates higher maintenance costs for this type. Get quotes for the exact engine and gearbox before committing.
This is general guidance about this type of car and your needs — not an inspection or approval of this individual car.
This is the G30-generation 5 Series (2017–2023 run) — most 2019 diesels will be 520d or 530d variants with an 8‑speed automatic (ZF 8HP) and modern EU6 emissions kit. Expect DPF, EGR and possibly an AdBlue/DEF system on later diesels, so fuel economy is very good on long runs but urban short-trip use can cause DPF problems. The automatic gearbox is generally robust but buyers should look for evidence of regular transmission servicing and smooth shift behaviour.
- DPF condition and regeneration history: signs of blocked DPF, frequent forced-regens or warning lights (important if the car has mostly short urban trips).
- EGR/inlet soot and turbo health: smoky or laggy acceleration, turbo whine or oil contamination around the intercooler/intake.
- Automatic gearbox operation and service evidence: smooth, consistent shifts with no hesitation, harsh downshifts or limp‑home symptoms.
- AdBlue system (if fitted): filler cap, warning lights, and dosing/system fault codes — replacement pumps and sensors can be costly.
- Underbody and suspension wear: check rear subframe/suspension bushes, wheelarch/sill corrosion from Irish roads and condition of brake discs/pads.
