This is the G30-generation 5 Series (introduced 2017); common petrol engines are the 2.0-litre four (B48, labelled 520/530 petrol in some markets) and the 3.0-litre inline-six (B58, 540i), paired with BMW’s 8‑speed automatic. Petrols are smoother and quieter than diesels but return lower mpg on long runs; the ZF 8HP gearbox is generally robust but benefits from periodic fluid/service checks. There are no DPF concerns with petrols, but watch for typical BMW wear items like electric water-pump failures and oil leaks around valve covers/turbo areas at this age.
