Could suit you if…
- You regularly make longer journeys: diesel may fit that pattern better than a routine of mostly short trips. Compare actual running costs.
- You need to carry tools or work equipment: this body type may suit. Confirm usable load space, payload and any commercial-use costs.
Think twice if…
- You need room for several children or extra passengers: the seat count is not recorded. Confirm this exact version's seats and child-seat fit; do not assume from the model name.
- Most journeys are short school runs or local trips: check whether this diesel has a particulate filter and what longer runs its handbook requires.
This is general guidance about this type of car and your needs — not an inspection or approval of this individual car.
The Berlingo is offered as a panel van in standard (L1/M) and long (L2/XL) lengths — payloads typically range from roughly 650kg up to around 1,000kg depending on spec and length, so check which variant you’re looking at. Most 2022 diesel Berlingos use PSA’s 1.5 BlueHDi engines with a DPF (and higher-output versions often use AdBlue/SCR); for a manual van check the clutch condition and watch for DPF/EGR issues on vehicles used mainly on short urban trips. Also note commercial vehicles in Ireland are under the commercial insurance market and will have DOE history rather than a passenger NCT.
- Clutch feel and biting point — test under load for slipping or long travel (common wear item on used manuals).
- DPF/EGR/AdBlue behaviour — look for frequent regenerations, warning lights, or soot/black exhaust (sign of short-trip use).
- Rear suspension and spring condition — check for sagging or replaced dampers that indicate repeated overloads.
- Cargo area, bulkhead and side-door runners — inspect floor lining/racking wear and rear-door hinge corrosion or damage.
