Spanner can help turn your car details into an advert.
Could suit you if…
- Your usual group fits within 5 seats, including the driver. Check passenger space and any child-seat fit in person.
- Many journeys are local or relatively short: petrol can fit that use without choosing diesel just for occasional long trips.
- You prefer a higher seating position: this SUV/crossover type may suit. Try getting in and out; the body shape alone does not prove extra seats or four-wheel drive.
Think twice if…
- You need to carry more than 5 people together: the advert records 5 seats, including the driver.
- You need certainty about this particular car: type-level advice cannot confirm its condition. Ask for service records, an insurance quote and an independent inspection.
This is general guidance about this type of car and your needs — not an inspection or approval of this individual car.
Most 2020 EcoSports sold with petrol manual gearboxes use Ford's small turbocharged petrol (commonly the 1.0-litre EcoBoost) which is peppy in town but likes regular oil and service intervals. The manual gearbox keeps running costs sensible, but interior and boot space are tighter than larger SUVs and EcoSports tend to depreciate faster than more mainstream hatchbacks. Parts are easy to get in Ireland through Ford dealers and independent garages.
- Clutch feel and bite: test for slipping under acceleration and check pedal travel; city use accelerates clutch wear on manuals.
- Turbo/boost plumbing: inspect intercooler and boost hoses for oil residue or splits and check for proper boost under hard throttle.
- Rear tailgate, hinge area and spare-wheel carrier (if fitted): check for corrosion and water ingress around lower tailgate and hinges.
- Suspension and steering noise over bumps and uneven tyre wear (front tyres): signs of worn dampers, anti-roll bar links or tracking issues.
- Aircon/heater and infotainment functions: older small Fords can show quirks with climate controls and SYNC software — verify operation on test drive.
