Could suit you if…
- You have convenient, regular charging at home, work or nearby: an electric car could fit your day-to-day routine.
- You prefer a higher seating position: this SUV/crossover type may suit. Try getting in and out; the body shape alone does not prove extra seats or four-wheel drive.
- You would prefer less gear changing in traffic: the recorded automatic transmission may suit. Try how this exact gearbox behaves on a test drive.
Think twice if…
- You need room for several children or extra passengers: the seat count is not recorded. Confirm this exact version's seats and child-seat fit; do not assume from the model name.
- You often travel far with little time to stop: check the battery's condition, realistic winter range and charging speed for this exact version.
- You are buying your first car or have a tight insurance budget: Spanner flags a higher insurance band. Get your own quote before paying a deposit.
This is general guidance about this type of car and your needs — not an inspection or approval of this individual car.
The Ioniq 5 uses Hyundai's 800V-capable EV platform (available with ~58 kWh or ~77 kWh batteries) so it can accept very fast CCS charging on compatible public chargers — actual speeds depend on the battery fitted. Hyundai provides a multi-year battery warranty (check the remaining coverage and any mileage limits), and AWD versions add a second motor which cuts range slightly but improves traction and performance. As an electric automatic there is no conventional gearbox or clutch to worry about, but keep an eye on software/firmware update history and charging hardware condition.
- High-voltage battery state-of-health (SoH) report and a real-world range check on a full charge versus the rated figure for the fitted battery size.
- CCS charging port and any supplied charging cables/adapters; confirm 800V fast-charge compatibility if the dealer claims it.
- Evidence that all software/firmware recalls and OTA updates were applied (early Ioniq 5s had firmware fixes).
- Heat-pump / HVAC performance and cabin demist in cold conditions (affects winter range), plus operation of regenerative-braking modes.
- Tyre condition and any uneven wear (heavy EV weight can wear tyres quicker) and check for unusual noises from suspension or rear subframe.
