Could suit you if…
- Many journeys are local or relatively short: petrol can fit that use without choosing diesel just for occasional long trips.
- You prefer a higher seating position: this SUV/crossover type may suit. Try getting in and out; the body shape alone does not prove extra seats or four-wheel drive.
Think twice if…
- You need room for several children or extra passengers: the seat count is not recorded. Confirm this exact version's seats and child-seat fit; do not assume from the model name.
- You need certainty about this particular car: type-level advice cannot confirm its condition. Ask for service records, an insurance quote and an independent inspection.
This is general guidance about this type of car and your needs — not an inspection or approval of this individual car.
The 2022 Kona petrol/manual is a small crossover — commonly fitted with Hyundai’s 1.0 T‑GDi three‑cylinder or a naturally aspirated 2.0 — and is mechanically straightforward compared with the hybrid/EV versions. A manual gearbox means clutch wear is the main driveline concern; there’s no hybrid battery or diesel DPF to worry about. Also check whether the car still has Hyundai’s transferable 5‑year warranty depending on registration date and mileage.
- Clutch feel and bite point — test for slipping under load and a consistent engagement, especially on a hill start.
- Manual gearbox shift quality — no crunching or grinding into gears, and smooth synchro action through 2nd/3rd.
- Turbo/intake hoses and joints (if the car is the 1.0 T‑GDi) — check for boost leaks, oil seepage around intercooler hoses and odd turbo noise on acceleration.
- Tyre condition and wear pattern — check age, uneven wear (possible sign of tracking or suspension issues) and spare/repair kit present.
- Rear seat space and ISOFIX anchorage condition plus boot area (parcel shelf and tailgate operation) to confirm it meets family needs.
