Could suit you if…
- Many journeys are local or relatively short: petrol can fit that use without choosing diesel just for occasional long trips.
- You prefer a higher seating position: this SUV/crossover type may suit. Try getting in and out; the body shape alone does not prove extra seats or four-wheel drive.
Think twice if…
- You need room for several children or extra passengers: the seat count is not recorded. Confirm this exact version's seats and child-seat fit; do not assume from the model name.
- You need certainty about this particular car: type-level advice cannot confirm its condition. Ask for service records, an insurance quote and an independent inspection.
This is general guidance about this type of car and your needs — not an inspection or approval of this individual car.
The 2023 Kona petrol/manual is a subcompact crossover typically fitted with Hyundai's small turbo petrol engines (often the 1.0 T‑GDi) and a conventional 6-speed manual. The manual is generally more economical than the autos and cheaper to repair if something goes wrong; Hyundai also offers a long factory warranty on newer cars so check remaining coverage and any open recalls or software updates.
- Clutch take-up and slip: test for smooth engagement and no slipping at higher revs (especially when hot).
- Gearbox synchros and shift feel: listen for crunching or notchy changes into 2nd/3rd which can show early wear.
- Turbo response and smoke: check for consistent boost delivery and no blue/grey smoke under acceleration (if it's a T‑GDi engine).
- Suspension and knocks: drive over bumps to detect noisy struts/strut‑top bearings or worn anti‑roll bar links common after urban use.
- Tyre wear and tracking: uneven wear can point to kerb damage/poor alignment — check all four tyres and wheel rims for kerbing.
