Could suit you if…
- Many journeys are local or relatively short: petrol can fit that use without choosing diesel just for occasional long trips.
- You prefer a higher seating position: this SUV/crossover type may suit. Try getting in and out; the body shape alone does not prove extra seats or four-wheel drive.
Think twice if…
- You need room for several children or extra passengers: the seat count is not recorded. Confirm this exact version's seats and child-seat fit; do not assume from the model name.
- You need certainty about this particular car: type-level advice cannot confirm its condition. Ask for service records, an insurance quote and an independent inspection.
This is general guidance about this type of car and your needs — not an inspection or approval of this individual car.
The 2024 Kona petrol with a manual gearbox is a small SUV aimed at everyday use — it’s straightforward mechanically compared with hybrids or dual-clutch gearboxes, so repairs tend to be cheaper. Many petrol Konas use a small turbocharged petrol engine; that gives good mid-range punch but benefits from regular oil and service intervals and can show intake or boost-hose issues if not looked after. Confirm any remaining Hyundai manufacturer warranty and whether it's transferable to a new owner.
- Clutch and gearbox: check for smooth gear selection, no crunching or excessive play, and that the clutch doesn't slip under a brisk acceleration test.
- Turbo/intake system (for turbo petrols): listen for unusual whine, check for hesitation or lack of boost, and inspect visible intake hoses and clamps for oil residue or damage.
- Underbody and front bumper: look for scrapes or damaged undertray from kerbs/roads — small SUVs often get scuffed in town and that can hide oil-filter or sump damage.
- Tyre and brake condition: check for even tyre wear and no juddering under braking; electronic aids like hill-start assist and stop/start should engage and cancel reliably.
- Confirm remaining manufacturer warranty transferability and that any outstanding software updates have been applied (infotainment/engine ECU).
