Could suit you if…
- You want to compare a hybrid for everyday mixed driving: confirm the exact hybrid system and its real-world fuel use.
- You prefer a higher seating position: this SUV/crossover type may suit. Try getting in and out; the body shape alone does not prove extra seats or four-wheel drive.
- You would prefer less gear changing in traffic: the recorded automatic transmission may suit. Try how this exact gearbox behaves on a test drive.
Think twice if…
- You need room for several children or extra passengers: the seat count is not recorded. Confirm this exact version's seats and child-seat fit; do not assume from the model name.
- You are relying on low fuel bills or electric-only driving: mild, full and plug-in hybrids work differently. Confirm which system this version has.
This is general guidance about this type of car and your needs — not an inspection or approval of this individual car.
The Kona Hybrid is a self-charging (non‑plug‑in) system pairing a small petrol engine with an electric motor and compact traction battery; you don’t need to plug it in but you’ll get good real-world fuel economy in mixed driving. The automatic in this car is a dual‑clutch style hybrid transmission — watch for software updates and recall campaigns that improve shift smoothness; Hyundai offers decent parts support and warranty coverage, so check remaining hybrid-battery warranty.
- Hybrid battery state-of-health report and remaining warranty coverage for the traction battery.
- DCT/automatic shift behaviour at low speeds — listen for judder or hesitation and ask for gearbox/software service history or recall work.
- Regenerative-braking feel and parking-brake operation; ensure no warning lights from the hybrid system or ABS.
- Boot space and underfloor around the boot (hybrid battery packaging reduces cargo volume) and check for any signs of water ingress or damaged shielding.
