The 2023 Sportage uses modern CRDi diesel hardware and on longer runs it’s economical and tractable; however these engines have DPF/EGR hardware and some variants use AdBlue dosing. The manual gearbox reduces complexity compared with an automatic but means you should watch clutch wear if it’s been used in town; Kia’s generous warranty (often 7 years from new) may still be active on a 2023 car — check transferability and remaining cover.

- EGR/turbo soot build-up and any boost leaks (look for smoky starts or lag)
- AdBlue tank filler/consumption and dosing warning lights (if the car is equipped)
- Clutch bite point and any slipping, plus smooth gear engagement (manual wear item)
- Correct operation of rear ISOFIX mounts and rear-seat latches, plus boot hinges and parcel shelf condition
