Mazda3s from 2019–2020 use Mazda’s Skyactiv design and diesel variants have particulate filters and EGR systems typical of modern diesels — they repay regular long runs to keep the DPF healthy. The manual gearbox keeps servicing simpler, but check for clutch wear on high-mile examples; diesel demand has fallen so resale for diesel examples can be a bit softer than petrol or hybrid equivalents.
- DPF condition — ask for evidence of regular motorway runs and check for recent forced regen events or warning lights
- EGR and turbo behaviour — watch for limp mode, excessive smoke or turbo whine during a road test
