Spanner can help turn your car details into an advert.
Could suit you if…
- Many journeys are local or relatively short: petrol can fit that use without choosing diesel just for occasional long trips.
- You would prefer less gear changing in traffic: the recorded automatic transmission may suit. Try how this exact gearbox behaves on a test drive.
Think twice if…
- You need room for several children or extra passengers: the seat count is not recorded. Confirm this exact version's seats and child-seat fit; do not assume from the model name.
- You need servicing to fit a tight budget: Spanner estimates higher maintenance costs for this type. Get quotes for the exact engine and gearbox before committing.
This is general guidance about this type of car and your needs — not an inspection or approval of this individual car.
The 2018 CLA is a compact four‑door coupe-style saloon from Mercedes’ A/CLA family (facelift models from 2017/18 are common). Petrol automatics in this line commonly use small turbocharged petrol engines with a 7‑speed automatic/dual‑clutch transmission—confirm which gearbox the car has and whether gearbox software/servicing was done. Parts and dealer servicing cost more than mainstream makes, but components are widely available in Ireland.
- Automatic gearbox behaviour: check for smooth, consistent shifts, no jerking or shudder at low speeds; ask for DCT/automatic transmission service history and any software updates.
- Turbo and induction system: listen for excessive turbo whistle or smoke on start, and inspect intake hoses for oil contamination or loose clamps.
- Suspension and subframe bushes: drive over bumps to detect knocks or creaks and check for uneven tyre wear from worn bushes or tracking issues.
- Electrical and infotainment items: verify cameras, parking sensors, ANC/heated seats and COMAND/Apple CarPlay functions work correctly and no persistent warning lights.
- Body and corrosion points: inspect wheel arches, boot lip and underside for stone‑chip corrosion or repairs from Irish salt exposure.
