Could suit you if…
- Many journeys are local or relatively short: petrol can fit that use without choosing diesel just for occasional long trips.
- You want practical access for everyday shopping and bags: the hatchback opening may suit your routine. Check actual boot space.
- You would prefer less gear changing in traffic: the recorded automatic transmission may suit. Try how this exact gearbox behaves on a test drive.
Think twice if…
- You need room for several children or extra passengers: the seat count is not recorded. Confirm this exact version's seats and child-seat fit; do not assume from the model name.
- You need certainty about this particular car: type-level advice cannot confirm its condition. Ask for service records, an insurance quote and an independent inspection.
This is general guidance about this type of car and your needs — not an inspection or approval of this individual car.
The Mirage (sold as Space Star in some markets) is a tiny supermini with a small petrol engine and a CVT automatic option — easy and economical to live with but not spacious. There’s no diesel/DPF complexity here, but the CVT needs its service history checked (fluid changes at recommended intervals) because repairs can be costly compared with a manual.
- CVT behaviour and service history: watch for juddering or rubbery acceleration and ask for evidence of gearbox fluid changes at correct intervals.
- Engine and transmission mounts: 3‑cylinder engines and automatics can reveal vibration if mounts are tired — check at idle and while pulling away.
- Suspension and underside corrosion: inspect front strut tops, lower sills and rear wheelarches for rust, especially in Irish salty conditions.
- Tyre age and brake wear: ensure tyres aren’t old (cracking/6+ years) and check for uneven wear or thin rear pads given urban stop‑start use.
