Spanner can help turn your car details into an advert.
Could suit you if…
- You regularly make longer journeys: diesel may fit that pattern better than a routine of mostly short trips. Compare actual running costs.
- You often load a pushchair, dog or bulky bags: an estate layout could be useful. Try your own luggage rather than judging by the exterior size.
Think twice if…
- You need room for several children or extra passengers: the seat count is not recorded. Confirm this exact version's seats and child-seat fit; do not assume from the model name.
- Most journeys are short school runs or local trips: check whether this diesel has a particulate filter and what longer runs its handbook requires.
This is general guidance about this type of car and your needs — not an inspection or approval of this individual car.
Most 2020 Megane diesel estates you see in Ireland use the 1.5-litre dCi family with a 6-speed manual — efficient on long runs but prone to soot-related issues if used only for short trips. Expect a roomy Sport Tourer boot and practical layout; however check DPF/EGR condition and clutch condition on a 6-year-old example, and keep in mind diesel demand has softened recently which affects resale.
- DPF behaviour: look for active-regeneration warnings, excessive soot smell or recent forced-regens which indicate mainly short-trip use
- EGR and inlet ports: carbon buildup can cause rough idle and reduced performance on higher-mileage diesels
- Clutch bite and slip: test from cold and warm, manual Meganes can need clutch work after hard urban use
- Turbo/intercooler hoses: check for oil leaks, whistling or lag that point to turbo wear or boost leaks
- Tailgate seals and underside around rear arches/boot floor: estates often show corrosion or seal leaks after years of use
