The 2019 Corolla (E210) range in Europe was sold mainly as hatchback and hybrid models, so a petrol manual saloon is straightforward but a bit less common than the hybrids. Expect simple servicing and easily sourced parts — the manual gearbox means cheaper long-term ownership than many automatics, but be aware that clutch replacement is the main wear item on a 7‑year‑old manual car. Confirm whether the specific petrol engine uses a timing belt or chain and the required interval (this varies by engine) before you commit.

• Clutch engagement and slip — check bite point, any judder, and clutch pedal free play under a gentle road test.
• Manual gearbox shift quality — listen for crunching or noisy synchros, especially when changing into 1st and 2nd.
• Tyre age and condition — check DOT manufacture dates and for sidewall cracking; tyres older than ~6 years should be considered for replacement.
• Underbody and lower sills/wheel-arches — inspect for corrosion around the rear subframe, exhaust hangers and suspension mounting points.
• Suspension bushes and anti-roll bar links — check for knocks, uneven ride or clunks over bumps which are common on higher-mileage examples.
