The Arteon is a large fastback with a liftback-style tailgate (dealers sometimes call it a saloon). Most 2019 diesel Arteons use the 2.0 TDI with a 7‑speed DSG automatic — the DSG needs periodic oil/filter service (roughly every 60k km) and can be costly if the mechatronics or clutch packs fail. Also check diesel-specific systems: DPF and EGR soot build-up and the AdBlue dosing unit, which are common trouble points on cars used mainly for short trips.
- DSG gearbox service: confirm oil/filter changes and test for smooth shifts, hesitation or judder on pull-away
- DPF/EGR condition: look for frequent regen warnings, black smoke, or heavy soot around the tailpipe/intake
- AdBlue system and injector: ensure no warning lights and dosing injector/tank show correct operation
- Tailgate/liftback seals and gas struts: check for water ingress, worn seals or weak struts on the boot lid
- Rear suspension and tyres: check for uneven tyre wear, rear bush/spring sag or knocks (signs of heavy loading)
