Volkswagen offered the Mk8 Golf with two different petrol-hybrid approaches: a 48V mild-hybrid (eTSI) paired to the DSG automatic, and a plug-in eHybrid (PHEV) with a larger battery and charging inlet. Mild-hybrid versions give smoother stop/start and modest economy gains and are lower-risk for battery issues; PHEVs can run short distances on electric only but you should check EV charging functionality and battery state-of-health.
