Parts are common in Ireland and repairers are familiar with these cars, but expect typical 12-year wear items like bushes, door seals and window mechanisms to show use.

• DSG gearbox behaviour and service history: smooth shifts when cold and warm, and documented DSG oil/mechatronics service (many failures trace to neglected service).
• Engine oil level and evidence of oil consumption or blue smoke on start/overrun — small TSI turbos can burn oil if missed services.
• Clunks or play from front/rear suspension bushes and drop links — common on older Polos and noticeable on rough Irish roads.
• Electrical items: power windows, central locking and door-lock actuators; window regulators and rear wiper are common fault points on older cars.
• Rust check around sills, wheel arches and the bottoms of doors (surface corrosion is common on a 12‑year car).
